A Damaged Windows Registry. Resolve the Windows XP Start Menu Problem Depending on the cause of the error, use one of the following methods to resolve the error message. Restart your PC and press the F8 key when the system is starting up. Next, use your updated Antispyware tool, such as Spyware Cease to run a full system scan.
To ensure that all infections are removed, run both the scans twice. Restart your PC. On the Applications tab, press the New Task button. On the [Processes] tab, see if your winlogon. This was the cause on our machines, winlogon had not started.
PS: sometimes just the act of pressing Alt-Control-Delete will be enough to jog the system a bit and your winlogon will start by itself. At home i have users logon and then they have folder redirections if you are not connected to the network you may loose those icons as i have noticed that if i bring my laptop to another location i dont have desktop icons or taskbar icons. This might be your issue if you or your network adminsitrator might have setup. Task manager doesn't start, Windows CD won't boot. When I do ctrl-alt-del, the menu pops up, but when I click on task manager, nothing happens. When I F8 and try to boot into Windows with command prompt, that doesn't work either. Safe mode comes up the same as regular, only wallpaper with no icons, menus, etc.
Does Win 10 have XP mode? Windows 10 does not support Windows XP Mode, but a person can still use the virtual keyword to do it on their own.
Scroll down to Windows VM and see if the checkbox is checked frequently. And of course! Do you know of any files preferably from Microsoft that can fix this warning issue, or do I have files that I can use to reinstall 7?
If this Windows virtual machine is not in your system In the search for programs, or perhaps in program files on this computer, go to the Add or Remove Programs section to make sure this is the case and choose to just turn Windows features on or off.
After re Booting we were back to square one with no Icons or Start Menu. I can only assume there is some kind of Spyware or Virus that his Macafee is not picking up ans is corrupting. I had the same error but a different problem. My problem was caused by using Active Desktop. When I changed the Active Desktop page to an existing file, the problem disappeared. Hope this helps.
