Install windows xp after dban

DBAN worked when I booted to it a second time. The XP install disc works fine in other computers so I don't think there's a problem with the disc. Edit: I have also tried to replace the optical drive to no avail.

WRONG You have over thought this one and while technically there may be nothing wrong with the XP Disc it doesn't mean that it will be readable in every Optical Drive it is placed into particularly if it's a Recorded Disc like so many Service Agents use to preserve their Originals. There are many cases where recorded disc's are not readable in certain drives this started with the original CD Recorders which could only use one or two brands of Blanks and then generally speaking the expensive ones.

Prior to that they where far more expensive. What is it color? Gold may be marginal some Blues are defiantly marginal with some drives. Just avoid the Super Cheap Blanks and get a brand name Blank to record. Tried to edit this into last post but it wouldn't let me. I have also tried to replace the optical drive to no avail.

Hi, I'm a student who works for a nonprofit that refurbishes older, donated computers to loan or sell to people with disabilities. We use DBAN to erase all information from donated computers. This is very odd since DBAN just worked without a hitch. The error message I get is the: "Press F1 to retry boot, press F2 for setup menu.

I Down loaded Partion Wizard and tried it on my machine first It wont boot from the optical drive. Any suggestions fellers?

I am going to try it on my grandsons machine later, about 11am. Your hdd is currently your first boot device. Been into the bios and changed the boot order No joy, it keeps coming up with ''none boot disk, insert a bootable disk and press any key''. Even tried copying fdisk floppy to a usb key and tried to boot from that, same story. Is there any other way of formatting the hdd? Zagreus, Unless you made your USB bootable it won't work.

You have to run the. There is an option to make a boot disk, choose that one. That should do it. Zagreus, My mistake, you have to scroll down the home page about mid way. Download that, it is in an. You will have to then burn it to a cd and it will boot your system. EDIT: just click on the download button then it will take you to another page, that is the page you need to scroll down to the bootable version 39mb. I assume you are talking about the partrition wizard?

Unfortunately, i wont be able to do anything until Saturday lunch. I will keep you posted. Update fellers to the above thread. I'm afraid the issue has now got me confused, as my daughter-in-law went and purchased Windows 7 for my grandson On install, options came up, one being to repair the computer, which he selected.

A progres bar appeared which lasted for about 40mins Anway, to cut to the quick, Windows 7 loaded up and his system is up and running, but that doesn't answer my original query as to why Windows xp woudn't load after using DBAN.

Do i put this down to a resolved? Just keep your disks handy. Sounds like my grandson. Didn't change or destroy the format. Log in Sign up. Search titles only. Search Advanced search…. New posts.
